A BDP file is an Exchange Diagnostic Message created by Microsoft solely for the purpose of failed email messages that were not delivered to recipients. It is normally generated to an EML file in the Outlook Express Saved Mail Messages Files. BDP files are saved in a folder called Badmail together with .BAD and .BDR files. The software that deals with these emails is called Microsoft Exchange Server. It handles and manages mainly electronic emails, contacts, calendaring and tasks. This is also being supported by various email clients namely Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Android, Windows Mobile, iOS and Windows Phone. Normally, returned emails contain the name of the sender and email address, name of the recipient and email address, subject of the email and the email message. This is also accompanied by a simple explanation why the email was returned. One of the common reasons for undelivered and returned emails is the nonexistent of the email address mentioned or the email address has ceased to exist.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 is a collaborative software from Microsoft Corporation that runs on the Windows Server operating system. Its can function as a mail server, a contact manager, and a calendaring software. Exchange Server 2010 has new features that enhance its efficiency. CCR, SCC, LCR, and site functionality SCR has been replaced by DAG (Data Availability Groups) to provide a higher level of availability for database (as opposed to server level availability). As a result database copies may be removed or added without requiring major reconfiguration of the server. Another feature is the use of Client Access Server (CAS) arrays. Multiple Client Access Servers are contained in an array, with a single identification in an Active Directory. Thus, faster client connection is effected by the single name endpoint. In previous editions of the Microsoft Exchange Server, a clustered mailbox server cannot be combined with another role. In Exchange Server 2010 users can combine the Mailbox Server Role with the Client Access Server and Hub Transport roles.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .bdp files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .bdp. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
