what is a .hki file?

A WinHKI archive file is classified as a compressed file that can be created using a file compression and decompression tool known as the WinHKI software. These WinHKI archive files are integrated with HKI compression specifications and are encoded in the HKI format. These WinHKI archives are also appended with the .hki extension, and the WinHKI file compression and decompression program is also implemented with support for many open source compression algorithms and specifications, not just widely used compression technologies developed for Microsoft Windows-based systems and Mac platforms. Users can select an option labeled "best compression ratio" in the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the WinHKI application to implement high compression ratio into files or folders chosen by the user for compression and encoding into one HKI file. A file or group of files and folders integrated with a high compression ratio means a smaller file size of the resulting HKI compressed archive than the combined size of all files and folders stored in the HKI file.

WinKHI is a file compression tool from WinHKI that utilizes zip programs to create very small data files. It can extract and compress files in rar, tar, ace, and bzip formats, including archives in other formats. The compression and archiving techniques with zip programs significantly reduces the number of bits in files so transmission is faster over the Internet. The password protection included in the application for file security makes it suitable for email programs or uploading files to the internet. It employs HTML compression that reduces text pages, and picture compression tools are available to reduce photos and images. Archiving and file management tools like spanning, splitting, zip files, encryption and decryption, backup program creation, and zip software extraction support data compression. The archives are password protected to prevent tampering or accidental deletion, and are suitable for storage on the hard disk or Web-based disk storage. The WinHKI software package is compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .hki files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .hki. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
