The “ATDISK DRIVER INTERNAL” BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error appears during the startup process for the operating system and when the system has been operational due to a faulty device driver. The error automatically shuts down the system due to an internal error or bug in a device driver that is installed on the hard disk of the computer. Other factors that can cause this BSOD error are faulty hardware and incompatibilities with the Basic Input / Output System (BIOS) settings.
This BSOD error is also known as “ATDISK_DRIVER_INTERNAL” and “Windows STOP 0x00000042“. It displays an error message that informs the user that the shutdown is implemented to prevent damage to the system.
You can fix the “ATDISK DRIVER INTERNAL” BSOD error by restarting the system in a safe mode to check if the error recurs. You can also resolve this issue by performing basic operations, starting with the latest driver and hardware that has been installed. To do this, revert the changes and clean the system registry, then monitor the performance of the computer and observe if the system becomes stable after the reversion.
To revert system changes, you have to restore the system to the Last Known Good Configuration. You have to restart the computer and then select F8 from the menu that displays the character-based choices for the operating system before the Windows logo appears. Click on the Advanced Options menu and use the cursor to highlight the Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. After completing the restore process, you have to restart the computer in the Safe Mode, and then remove the latest changes in the system, such as the installation of new devices, device drivers, and system updates. Restoring the system will not affect your personal files.
You can also resolve this issue by checking the connections for the installed devices and verifying the compatibility of the device driver with the system. You can do this by performing a verification of the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to assess if the newly installed device and the driver are compatible with the operating system.
