You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .ms8. Files with the file extension .ms8 can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .ms8 files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.

what is a .ms8 file?

The MS8 file extension is a data file known as the Multisim 8 DesignCircuit File which was designed by National Instruments Corporation. It serves as storage for programmable logic design schematics. The National Instruments Electronics Workbench Group (formerly Electronics Workbench) provides the PCB designer with tools for schematic capture, interactive circuit simulation with SPICE, board layout with auto routing options, and integrated prototyping and test. Multisim 8 software includes “real” Virtual Instruments from Tektronix, powerful time-saving function, simulation profiles Tool-tip Style Notes, model makers, new worst case algorithms and new amplifier circuit wizard. Circuit wizard knows when user wants to wire so it changes to a crosshair or use “QuickStart1.ms8” from the “Samples\QuickStart” folder. It also offers compatibility of component browser with MS Excel and components in circuit can be automatically saved to the parts database. Files with MS8 format can be opened with NI Circuit Design Suite 11 and National Instruments Multisim in Microsoft Windows platforms.

how to open a .ms8 file?

Launch a .ms8 file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .ms8 file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .ms8 files aren't yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open a .ms8 file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct one for that file. From then on, opening a  .ms8 file will open the correct application. National Instruments Multisim

National Instruments Multisim

National Instruments developed Multisim as an industry-standard circuits training and SPICE simulation environment for designing, prototyping, and testing electronic schematic designs. This teaching tool builds expertise in all areas of electronic circuit education through practical application of concepts and methods learned in the classroom. NI Multisim has incorporated the layout software NI Ultiboard into its suite of learning tools. Multisim exports and imports schematics of the printed circuit board into and from Ultiboard, which offers a three-dimensional view of the PCB layout to students before it's exported. Students achieve their learning objectives with PCBs earlier in the process when they combine intuitive analysis and visualization with an electronic circuit simulation. Versions 9.0 and 10.x of Multisim are compatible with Windows XP while newer editions work fine with Windows 7 and Vista. Because it operates in a 3D environment, the software needs an OpenGL-capable graphics card.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .ms8 files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .ms8. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
