Almost all laptops can connect to an external display, such as a flat panel display, projector, or TV. The external display can extend your screen, give you more screen space for applications, or mirror it (show the same thing on both screens).

To connect the external display to the laptop's external video connection, locate the correct port on the body of your laptop. An example of a VGA connection, and the VGA port on a laptop, is shown to the right. If there are screws on the connector, tighten them to be snug, but not too tight. Tighten them evenly on the left and right, a little at a time.
When the connection is made, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display, or you may be required to press one or more keys on the laptop's keyboard to activate the external display. The activation key sequence can vary depending on the laptop, but is typically one of the following: Fn + F3, F4, F5, F7, F8, F9, or F10.

It will not impact your performance at all.
