what is a .efs file?

An Ensoniq SQ-80 file is used by a specific digital synthesizer released in the market by Ensoniq in 1987, particularly the Ensoniq SQ-80 electronic MIDI keyboard. These Ensoniq SQ-80 files are used as audio data required by this electronic device to perform its integrated features. This means when a user accesses a certain set of functionalities integrated into the Ensoniq SQ-80 digital synthesizer, then the system of the device locates all associated EFQ files, among other digital files, and references the data stored in those files. The Ensoniq SQ-80 synthesizer is then able to process the feature requests from the user, and it performs the operations needed to give the user the functionality corresponding to the keys and other buttons pressed by the user. E-Mu acquired Ensoniq and now produces newer digital synthesizers that use more recent digital audio files. These newer digital snythesizers can be synched or connected to computers running on popular systems like Microsoft Windows, Mac platforms and Linux distributions.

Ensoniq VFX-SD

Ensoniq VFX-SD

In 1989, Ensoniq VFX SD was released shortly after the initial released of Ensoniq VFX Synth as a performance type synthesizer. It has an updated drum waves or waveforms, a 24-track sequencer and a floppy drive for additional archiving purposes. VFX-SD is a professional quality sequencer capacitating 25,000 to 75,000 notes, and can hold up to 60 sequences and songs. The sequencer's operating system is loaded into the floppy disk from the RAM memory of the instrument, allowing easy loading of Ensoniq's new operating system. The VFX-SD's sequencer is versatile indeed because its floppy disk can also be used in storing whole songs, single sequence, single presets, 20-presets bank, single sounds, sets of 6 or sets of 30 sounds, and whole banks (60 seconds). Although it is not compatible with MS-DOS, niche industry sprang up to accommodate the needs of the musicians. The software has also a new drum and percussion sounds that includes 24 drum kits, totally compatible with the original VFX sound library. It also featured with MIDI Automated mixing and four individual outputs.
Ensoniq SQ-80

This model is more reliable that ESQ-1 due to electronic hardware design revision. It is the first product to feature Ensoniq's patented Polypressure Keyboard technology which has a polyphonic aftertouch wherein each key pressed will independently respond to other keys aftertouch. Aftertouch can also control various modulation parameters like the LFO. Although SQ-80 is a classic analog or digital hybrid of the late eighties, it lacks built-in effects.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .efs files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .efs. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
