This applies to both graphics data and text documents. This is also used in fixing the layout of document footers, text, headers and pages. The FFT format was used by IBM DisplayWrite. DisplayWrite is word processor application software that was created for use by IBM PC. The document file used was RFT or Revised Form Text and DCA or Document Content Architecture, in which were the standards for IBM’s mainframe machines. Another application was also released which was considered a much better version than the previous version and termed more powerful with graphics. This version was called DisplayWrite/370 and still used for IBM zSeries mainframe computers. IBM’s DisplayWrite system came out with another version which is a microcomputer based word processing machine that was introduced in 1980 and used diskettes in storing data.

Without configuration, you need to save the file to local computer for editing. Pop-up blockers prevent documents from being saved in the Rich Text Editor. You need to add the host site to your list of sites allowing pop-ups before opening the document in Rich Text Editor. The path is similar to this: app_server_root\profiles\Profile_Name\temp\server_cell_name\server_type\odc\RichTextEditor.war\cds\Session_Id\Filename.ort
IBM OS/2

IBM OS/2

OS/2 is a computer operating systems series that is originally created by IBM and Microsoft. Later on, IBM developed it exclusively. It stands for Operating System/2 as part of the same release of generation change for IBM’s Personal System/2 [PS/2] second-generation line of personal computers. OS/2 is created as the successor in protected mode of PC-DOS. The basic system calls are modeled after MS DOS with names starting in Dos, and creating Family Mode programs is possible. Its text mode programs could work on both systems. Due to this characteristics, OS/2 is similar to Xenix, Unix and Windows NT in various ways. OS/2 is no longer supported by IBM market, and has been discontinued since December 31, 2006. Its technology includes a graphic system layer called Presentation Manager that manages fonts, windows and icons. It has the Workplace Shell [WPS] that is an object-oriented shell allowing you to perform traditional computing operations such as printers, file access, launching legacy applications, advanced object-oriented jobs using third-party and built-in application objects that made it an integrated shell version. Its SQM [System Object Model] represents folders, disks, program objects, files and printers that enables code to be available for sharing among applications with possibly different programming languages. Its document technology is called OpenDoc developed with Apple. It is no longer in development. Its Media Control Interface commands provides access to its multimedia functions. The last update with Netscape Navigator plug-ins supports MPEG files.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .fft files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .fft. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
